The evolving home
ARCHITECT
: Hiren Patel, Ahmedabad.
Also how these dying building types can help in making a lasting
statement which is both project specific, and Architecturally creative.
The site is situated at Dasada, a small town in Gujarat. It is
a rectangular place of land where an artificial water channel swells its two sides as if a moat.
The
proposal for Rann Rider has a low profile with simple traditional units placed
strategically to symbolically create perceivable images of a village. The elementary
traditional huts and round ‘ bhunga’ were spatially organized on the periphery
on the land. To construct these hotel cottages. Local craftsmen were engaged
and traditional techniques of construction were used to get the ethnic Qualities.
But later the people involved here, visualized that the desired
sophistication was lacking in the resort. Thus the craving for introducing contemporary lifestyle induced a need to uplift the property
in totality. Here an Architect intervention occurred. The scope of Architect in the project limits to digest the existing and delivers
accordingly without any fancy.
The existing structures were religiously analyzed with keen retrospection
to develop a design approach to achieve the goals of the client in a stringent budget. Broadly the survey made it clear the rudimentary
shelters need to be gently caressed and resurrected with minor repairs, colors and embellishments to rejuvenate its inherent aesthetic
Qualities.
The existing furniture
was reused and refurnished with Lacer polish. The improvisations in its comfort
assessment to avail basic AC and telephone services rooms. New floors were laid
in ceramic flooring. The roof was repaired and made leak proof and bathrooms
were incorporated without disturbing the existing fabric of the shelter.
Dining space is designed as an open verandah. The concept itself eases
to maintain an inside outside relationship. The freshness and a holistic environment are brought in the cozy eating pockets and the
waiting areas by placing them on the edge of the open shelter. The whole idea is further cheered by use of yellow
The two projects Rann Rider and Old Bell guesthouse displayed here are
an attempt to touch issues such as friendly intervention of ides, both into an improperly functioning, as well as abandoned public
spaces. How respond fully to today’s community needs without compromising on their basic functioning and legacy.
Curtains as if framing multiple vistas of various colors, forms and
textures. The open dining is backed up by an open kitchen pantry and built up dining seats.
The approach to the cottages form a ring of linking an path and
this element take a vital role of linking an individual unit to the whole. Togetherness in the cluster is further enhanced through
relaxing pockets and focal nodes and grouping of various plant forms.
These essentials are strategically placed to takes ones journey
into variety of experiences. Immediate spaces to the hotel rooms are done with charming plantations and lush green lawn to give a sense
of belonging to every guest.
While the major patch in the center is kept open as a desert garden.
Further across the dining verandah is a kidney shape swimming pool for chilling out.
